A few more writing links
Hi everyone - a few more sources - we also have link on your MyLearning site for writing help - ours is a reportage style writing in the first person...
writing is a creative process - use drafts version 1 , version 2, version 3 to edit and shape the writing - especially after feedback. Remember you are in the driving seat - the author - and communication can be in a written form but don't forget images, visual diagrams, and audio-visual. The use of the later can increase you file size - but submissions can be up to 500mb in the final portfolio. Beyond that consider WeTransfer for artefacts over 500mb

Writing reportage style and critical thinking
https://unihub.mdx.ac.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0038/187499/How-To-Write-A-Report.pdf
a bit dry but also includes appendices!
we do a reportage style writing in the first person - but it is a creative style of writing
wordy - but the idea is that you are writing with a point of view - so there is a strong voice
http://www.impactfactory.com/library/creative-report-writing
It is also writing using reflection again if you have not looked MDX has lots of resources - worth a google
https://unihub.mdx.ac.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0019/156052/Reflective-Writing-PPT.pdf
I also liked this link

http://www.kcl.ac.uk/campuslife/services/disability/service/using-gibbs-reflective-cycle-in-coursework.pdf
Also remember critical thinking - this is about theorising your practice - so the ideas and literature need to be there

Adesola just mentioned this is the term to look up for Dance - brilliant!
Appendices BAPP Arts
Appendices are extra additions to the ‘reportage’ style – so journal extracts – things form work – and you can explain them with more words not in the word count
http://unilearning.uow.edu.au/report/1i.html
https://www.une.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0019/12772/WE_Appendices.pdf
you can use images and audio visual (you can upload these separately if needed)
here is an earlier blog repeated

APPENDICES!
An appendix is just a section a that send of a report that gives the reader supporting information and evidence to explain something summarised in the text.
They do not go in the word count.
Here are some websites explaining them and other aspects of report structures.
As is said at Napier University http://www2.napier.ac.uk/gus/writing_presenting/reports.html#basic
http://library.bcu.ac.uk/learner/writingguides/1.02%20Reports.htm
In the text of the things we do for BAPP(Arts) we can use hyperlinks within the digital text as well as saying (Appendix A) or (Appendix 1) for important materials we want to add. After the References, the Appendices are labeled at the topi of the page with Appendix A and then extracts are presented on this page... remember you can add visual illustrations and elements - cite any sources using the Harvard style. Usually, you do not add appendices or supporting evidence unless there is a purpose for doing so - and this purpose needs to be explained in the text. Use them sparingly because the reader can get exhausted if there are too many (this is where digital hyperlinks can have more because they do not interrupt the reader's flow.

Appendices | Appendices are materials you have referred to which are not essential for the reading of the report, and which could distract the reader from its logic. However, they need to accompany it so the reader can refer to them. Examples are tables, graphs, statistics, diagrams, which have been mentioned in the report. Appendices are numbered, for referencing in the text. |

Debate in the film industry
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-36036230
My daughter went to Agnieszka's talk at the British Film Institute in London and said it was very good - strong points but used experience to add voice to this debate in the industry.
This is related to a theme Ilona is doing for her inquiry:

Module 2 Outline for Proposal
this is on page 19 in your Module 2 Handbook
Outline of the Inquiry Plan
Use the following headings in bold for your inquiry plan and discuss:
• Title of the Professional Inquiry (a working title of your inquiry)
• Context of the Inquiry (what is your professional practice and why is this
inquiry meaningful to you within your professional practice)
• Rationale and Inquiry Question(s) (what are you trying to find out more
about and how will this improve your practice)
• Aims / Objectives (Aims: what outcomes do you plan to achieve; Objectives:
what are you are actually going to do in the inquiry)
• Literature, art work and Ideas (What are the existing ideas, discussions and
thoughts about the area or topic of your inquiry?)
• Inquiry tools & Ethical consent/permissions (What data collecting tools will
you use and why? use your experience piloting inquiry tool to explain why you
think these are appropriate. Explanations should relate to the Ethic Release
form and Employer/Professional Support forms you will submit about your
inquiry)
• Approach to analysis (how will you think through the information you will
collect in the inquiry. That is how will you find a relationship or draw
conclusions between the existing ideas, your experience and data you collect)
• Resources (What are the resources needed to carry out the inquiry)
• Schedule of activities
• Conclusion (overview of the whole inquiry – who, what, why and when)
You also need to submit:
• Your Critical Reflection (500 words)
• Ethics Release form
• Employer/Professional Support form
• Award Specialism Title form

Thinking creatively - Module 3 analysis
I will try to add any points I have forgotten... but please refer to Reader 7 and Reader 6 for more on this - and the Reading Lists and e-books attached to each course

On BAPP Arts we have chosen a constructivist world view - so much of the research is qualitative although many do use mixed research methods
1st - you are developing critical thinking here
Stella Cottrell Critical thinking (she is in our library and a quick link below for a taster)
many use this to guide academic study
2nd Research Analysis
We do not always use all of the terms e.g. 'coding' for looking at the emerging findings and looking for common themes, themes that differ, and significant themes- or themes that stand out... BUT I find doing a matrix or using a grid to say - Participant A said this - Participant B said that... and then you can 'see' what people have said - you dod not need to transcribe all of your oral data - just the important points and the quotes you will use for evidence.
Some sample research literature sources to use for analysis - please refer to these to help you with your work!
