Children and Google

Here is a BBC article about children using google  in preference to asking their teachers... it make link to many of the issues we have been talking about and also relate to an overall generational attitude to education. I still have the World Book Encyclopedias I grew up with, but the pace of knowing has changed in today's society. Where are the kids looking? Information literacy questions here.

  1. This is interesting. I like to help my niece with her homework, last week it was french - my weakest subject. She went straight to google and explained that this was normal. It really hit home how schooling and children has changed through google. It made me sad to learn that children prefer google to parents for homework help, as I think homework can be a great parent and child connection. It can be fun to discover the child's new learning together and makes the parent apart of the child's development.

  2. I am missing out here as I am no longer working with younger learners - but they say it is also the sources of information - the quality of those sources are important and children might prefer speed over quality. However in some ways it can lead to static learning - because now the learning is in front of computers - although mobile technology is changing that. found this in terms of dance - http://78.158.56.101/archive/palatine/development-awards/1428/index.html
