  3. We are encourage to think outside of the box and think of all different aspects of ways to learn and record not just putting pen to paper.

The freedom of the tutorials and skype sessions etc allows us as students to freely express ideas with the help of a tutor to focus and explore all aspects.

  4. A lot of the time having meetings with all the students sharing our thoughts about a topic. It doesn't have to be handwritten. Spoken word from a spontaneous perspective can be more honest and often create new observations.

  5. The very nature of the course encourages independent thinking! The way in which we use a personal blog as part of the course enables us as students to approach our studies in a more creative way because we are in control of what we post. I really enjoy designing my posts, as very often I learn better with colour and creative visuals around me.
The Reflective Practitioner tasks allow for a great deal of creativity through the journal writing and it is also possible to use visuals in these tasks.
From the start we are encouraged to apply what we are learning to our own work and lives. This allows us to make our learning really individual.
The way in which the tutorials and Skype sessions are structured gives great freedom for the views of us as individuals too.

  7. Through work based learning, listening to other people's experiences and how they manage themselves in terms of an artist. It inspires others and encourages them to see how other people work and to in turn try different methods. The use of Web 2.0 also allows us to be create in terms of design and imagery. Creativity allows us to all be different and independent. Nobody's work is the same.

  8. Reflecting on this, for me it would be the live Skype calls and how we are encouraged to think outside the box about what it means the be ' academic'. I think that teachers encourage us to be creative in communicating our ideas through different mediums, such as using the blog, which in turn reaches out to our network. At the start of the course we are asked... ' what do you want your blog to be? ' providing a sense of ownership over what we write on there which encourages us to be creative, the blog is our space to share our thinking.

I have learnt on the BAPP course that creativity is a flow which can reach out to everyday life and I think we are encouraged to do that by reflection and being challenged in what we say.

  9. The whole visual aspect of the course encourages creativity as we are urged to present our ideas not only in writing but through images, videos, diagrams etc. Discussion with tutors and students is constantly encouraged and this is a fantastic way for new ideas and options to emerge thus allowing creativity to develop

  10. From the very start of the course you are very much starting to realise and challenge your senses r of learning. Being in the creative industry the course enables us to share ideas through Skype chats/blogs etc to try new ways of creating work. Constantly being encouraged to find our own research and not just the ones already given so that it can open up more options and find the best ways to suit yourself and your learning.
On the bapp arts course you are always creating and finding new ways to create from the blog to a Flickr page. Expanding on our knowledge as practitioners.

  12. Thanks for the excellent posts everyone! I just posted these comments in the thread for this activity. I will definitely be blogging more about the continued professional development activity. Norman Jackson wrote a very good paper about creativity that I will refer to. Thanks again!!!

  13. most teachers/trainers I have been taught by always encourage expanded thought. Pose challenging questions and provide you with ample resources to further develop your thoughts or practise.

They have always been positive and approachable people. So far I feel very supported on the BAPP Arts course and encouraged to learn and explore.

  14. Hey Paula, hope you're doing fine!

I don't know if this comes way too late or if it's of any use at all, but for me, it was always a good thing to be challenged, aka not getting away with a first draft and being forced to think outside the box and outside of my own comfort zone. Also: Learning about the creative process as a model helped visualizing and understanding how creativity works and how it can be trained helped me a lot, since I like to know 'how' things work.

This is why I include the creative process in my own classes very early on. I also encourage my students to make mistakes, since the fear of failing is something that can keep you from being creative in my opinion. "Fail Faster" is a great motto, because it makes you learn how things DO NOT work and how to avoid them in the future.

  15. Hi Paula, not sure if it is too late...

On BAPP we are encouraged to think for ourselves and trust our opinions. BAPP is a safe environment and opinions are valued. BAPP encourages growth as a practitioner and the tasks/tutorials nurture and direct our ideas.
