Grief at the National

Grief at the National.... I have not been to this yet but Mike Leigh's process is an interesting one and well knownin British film and theatre.

  1. I am looking forward to watching this Paula - as I am working at the same theatre I have got to know Wendy a little bit and I have heard great things about the show. I'd be interested to know your thoughts when you have seen it.

  2. I've seen it because I work on the bars at the National still. It is, what's the word......intense. I think the character studies are incredible and I'm so impressed that they managed to create it from basically nothing. Two months go there wasn't even a title. I do think as a whole it is rather clunky though. See what you think. Be ready to cry. I did.

  3. Yes - that is the Leigh experience - I need to get tickets. Very hard-hitting and a bit Samuel Beckett in the presentation of disparity. Here is one example of Beckett - I love it - post-war people in pots - incredibly done here:

    I sometimes have to wait to see 'dark' things because they do affect you if you take things to heart - but it is a side of life that also links to classic plays form Greece etc. in their view of life as harsh and unforgiving aka Medea.
